Planting in a Post-Wild World

Speaker: Claudia West

North Creek Nurseries

Please join us for the annual meeting of the White Clay Watershed Association.  A brief business meeting will be followed by a talk based on Claudia’s new book about designing and managing conservation landscapes from small scale residential spaces to larger commercial or public sites.  Such projects require a new form of planting design that works with natural principles and marries horticulture with ecology. Learn how native plants fit into future landscapes and how plant community based design strategies can help you meet aesthetic and ecological goals during your next planting project.  Copies of Claudia’s book will be available at the meeting.

The meeting and lecture are open to the public and all are welcome. Admission is free.

Sally Rickerman, 1921-2015

The WCWA is mourning the loss of one of its founding members: Sally Rickerman helped form the organization in 1965 when the White Clay was threatened by a dam and has been a leading advocate for the Creek ever since. She did the legal work to incorporate the WCWA and has served on the Board of directors for the entire history of the organization. She consistently challenged us to not take the Creek for granted and will be missed by all of us who worked with her.

Sally is survived by sons, David (and Julie), Jonathan, and Jeffrey; granddaughter, Claire; nieces and nephews, Janet, Foster, Lila, and David and their children and grandchildren; extended family members and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry George Rickerman and her father and mother, David Hinshaw and Augusta Wiggam.

A Quaker Memorial Meeting for Worship was held Aug. 15, 2015 at London Grove Friends Meeting, London Grove.
