Proper Staking

Staking is only required when the newly planted tree will blow over in a mild wind. Material used should be Broad Belt-Like and Flexible. Wire in a hose should not be used.

The pictures are CAMB GUARDS ® made from recycled rubber products. For information contact us.

The staked tree should be able to sway. This is an old farmers term called feathering. The support should be as low as possible on the trunk and remain in place for no more than one to two years. Do avoid the common mistake of planting too deep to avoid staking thus this will cause big problems down the road.

When the tree sways it will adjust to its new environment much better, i.e., reaction wood and woody root growth.

Bare root planting may require staking for a short period of time.

Several Universities are supporting the use of CAMB GUARDS ® and like materials when staking is necessary. "References"
