Organic tree care can be achieved with a thorough understanding of tree biology. Ignorance of tree biology has been, and still is, the major cause of tree problems worldwide. Treatments based on tree biology give trees the dignity and respect they deserve. An understanding of predisposition and the clean-up crew will give one an understanding of insects, microorganisms, etc. and their relationship with the tree system. For example, just one treatment, improper mulching is an epidemic in Pennsylvania and nearby states. This poor practice can and does lead to problems for the tree. Insects and micro's get the blame for the decline of the tree. However, proper mulching can increase the health of your trees as well as soil. With an understanding of tree biology, adjustment to common treatments to trees, can lead to healthy, attractive trees. I.e, without the use of questionable chemicals. Why use questionable chemicals to kill things that are not causing a problem for the tree? Poor treatments lead to the kinds of problems that insects and such get the blame.
Selecting unhealthy trees, planting in the wrong place, incorrect planting, improper mulching, improper pruning, improper fertilization all add up to trouble for your trees and landscape. The clean-up crew gets blamed for the latter too often.
