Myth:
Legislation now before Congress, the National Forest
Protection and Restoration Act (NFPRA), would outlaw
all cutting of all trees under any circumstances.

Fact:
The National Forest Protection and Restoration Act (NFPRA) would allow the gathering of
wood for personal firewood use, or for other personal, noncommercial purposes under existing
free or paid use permits.  In addition, the legislation would establish a Natural Heritage
Restoration Corps to carry out scientifically based restoration plans that include some cutting of
trees for forest health purposes.
