Dear Friend,
I (not the US FOREST SERVICE) define a forest as a highly ordered arrangement
of living organisms living in, on and around (dead, dying & living)
trees in such an highly ordered fashion it
assures high quality survival for all.
Your help is urgently needed to get co-sponsors for the "National Forest Protection and Restoration Act" (H.R. 2789), which was introduced into the House of Representatives by Rep.Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) and Rep. Jim Leach E-IA, Chair of the House Banking and Finance Committee) on October 31st, 1997. This important bill will:
1) End the timber sales program on all National Forests and other
federal public lands nationwide;
2) Redirect timber subsidies into worker retraining and
ecological restoration; and
3) Save taxpayers at least $300 million annually.
We need your help to generate as many phone calls, letters, and faxes
as you- can into your Congressional Representative's office urging him/her
to be a co-sponsor of this bill. Please have your
friends, family, and co-workers call or write too, and, if possible,
set up a monthly letter writing group. You can reach your Representative's
office by calling directly, or by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121
and asking for their office. Say that you would like to
leave a message for the Representative, and ask for a response (leave
your address). The message is simple (or you can put it in your own words):
"I want Representative ___________ to be a co-sponsor of the National Forest Protection and Restoration Act to end logging on Federal Public Land.
Write to: Representative _______________
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Along with generating phone calls and letters we also need your help
in generating letters-to-the-editor and editorials in the newspaper in
your area. This helps demonstrate to your
Congressional Representative that there is interest in his/her district.
When your letters or editorials get printed in the paper, it is useful
to clip them out and send them, along with a note urging co-sponsorship
of H.R. 2789, to your Representative. Thanks for your help and support.
Sincerely,
John A. Keslick, Jr.
