Myth 7. - Bark mulch is better because there are no living members.

While bark (outer) mulch may not support the living world that composted wood chips and leaves do, as long as the wood chips are composted and not fresh, composted wood chips offers substrate for bonogens rather than pathogens.  Fresh chips on the other hand would stimulate artillery fungus and attract pathogens, composted wood chips does not.  All bark mulch should be avoided if the health of the living soil is an objective.
